Jar of Hearts by Jennifer Hillier packed just enough punch in the plot to keep me going. The characters were decently drawn (although recognizable) and the narrative came together nicely. Right up until the very end.
At the start of the novel, Geo is at her own trial for being an accessory to a murder that happened fourteen years prior. The killer was her high school boyfriend, and the victim was Geo's best friend. Geo is sentenced to five years and right after she gets put away, the killer escapes.
The middle of the book is Geo's experience in prison and shortly thereafter. Flashbacks throughout lead us to exactly what happened the night her best friend was murdered. There's a good twist and a befitting (however predictable) romance.
However, the ending was hard to swallow as it's never explained how Geo can still be walking free. One can hypothesize, but I wanted a little more than that. All in all, the plot of this thriller was a good one and it kept my interest. I give Jar of Hearts three stars out of five.
