Say You'll Remember Me by Abby Jimenez is one to grab when you need a feel-good, uplifting read. Abby Jimenez pens a modern, clever romance that's easy yet fulfilling to read.
Samantha and Xavier meet at his veterinarian clinic one day in Minnesota. The meeting is contentious, but they have an instant attraction for each other. When they finally go out on a date, they hit it off and both fall hard.
Every good romcom has an obstacle to the couple being together. This one? Samantha is due to leave for California the next day. Permanently. Her mom has early onset dementia, and she and her family have promised to care for her together. And Xavier can't pick up and move to California because he has a new vet practice to run and is in a great deal of debt because of it.
The months and years go by with the couple doing everything they can to see each other. But flights are expensive and they each are tied to their locations. Jimenez writes of their heartache and longing with aplomb as their frustration and helplessness builds. As Samantha is pondering the hopelessness of their situation she thinks, "there would be weeks upon weeks of gray without him and then two or three days of color."
But we know this genre of book always delivers, and it's delicious to wait 'til the end to find out how they pull off finally being together permanently. With witty dialogue and a sweet twist, this novel was a pleasure to read. I give Say You'll Remember Me four stars out of five.
