Shari Lapena wows with She Didn't See it Coming. With the on-point unfolding of details and Lapena's clear, concise writing, this reader was hooked on this whodunit from page one all the way to the surprising end.
Brydon Frost doesn't pick up her three-year-old from daycare one day. Her husband Sam is called, and when he gets home with the girl, he sees that Brydon's computer, phone, and wallet are still inside of their apartment, but Brydon has disappeared.
Naturally, suspicion goes to her husband. However, Lapena brings characters in who all would have motivation to get rid of Brydon. From the creepy guy down the hall to the mysterious man Brydon rear-ended, each suspect raises the hackles of the investigators.
With echoes of the true-crime Cecil Hotel incident and the disappearance of Elisa Lam, Shari Lapena builds the tension as specifics are doled out. She Didn't See It Coming, with its just-right pacing and intrigue, was a page-turner. This thriller gets five out of five stars from me.
