Freida McFadden can always be counted on for a quick-paced, easy to read page-turner. The Crash delivers just that as long as you're willing to suspend your disbelief and the ridiculousness of a couple basic plot points.
Tegan is twenty-three, single and eight months pregnant from a one-night stand. She doesn't remember much from that night, but the father of her baby is married with a family and wants to pay Tegan off to leave him alone. He can afford it, and Tegan is only too willing to accept the huge amount of cash to set her and her baby up for life.
However, when some memories come back to her about exactly what happened the night of her baby's conception, Tegan decides she cannot accept the money from this man. She does not want him to do what he did to her to any other woman.
When Tegan sets off to visit her brother in a snowstorm, her car crashes and she's pinned inside with an injury. A very large, scary-looking man frees her and brings Tegan to his house. It is there that Tegan experiences the most frightful and painful days of her life in captivity.
I won't give away the ending. However, although gratifying, it left me disbelieving that someone so completely unhinged and ready to commit murder could come out with psychologist-documented "excellent mental health". However, this thriller (that totally gave Misery vibes) was surely enjoyable and kept me flipping the pages. I give The Crash four stars out of five.
