Apocalyptic story? Sign me up! Takes place in Wisconsin and written by a Sconnie writer? Yes, please! Dating After the End of the World by Jeneva Rose was a fun read that delivered the thrills.

Casey grew up in Wisconsin with a doomsday prepper father. She was bullied because of that as a child and always felt frustrated and embarrassed by her dad. In present day, Casey is working as a doctor at a Chicago hospital when a virus breaks out. And you guessed it, it's spread by biters; so, when the Emergency Room is overcome by zombies one day Casey must flee for her life. After that first event in the hospital Casey thinks about her father, he was right about everything.

Making her way to her father's place in Wisconsin is a bang, and she is met with a good cast of characters living on the compound. Here is where Casey and the others must deal with not only the "biters", but the "burners" - people who are not infected but are taking advantage of the way things are now by wreaking havoc and causing mayhem through lawlessness.

This part brings a lot of gory violence into the story. One might expect some of that in a novel about a zombie apocalypse; however, it was almost comical in how over the top it was! The romantic part of the story saved it from getting too heavy and added an element of interest and levity.

Jeneva Rose's characters were solid and gave this book the humanity it needed. All in all, Dating After the End of the World by Jeneva Rose was a solid read and it gets three and a half stars out of five from me.
