Becky's Great Book Reviews Mean Moms by Emma Rosenblum

Emma Rosenblum seems to have her finger on the pulse of the affluent in New York City, as demonstated in her enjoyable novel Mean Moms. Centering around a group of parents who have their children enrolled in the exclusive private school Atherton Academy, Mean Moms amuses with its hilarious and scathing portrait of the uber wealthy.

Belle, Morgan, and Frost are the "it" moms at Atherton, revelling in their top positions as the popular parents. New mom Sofia appears one fall, attaining a much-coveted non-entry enrollment for her two children. Befriending Sofia after she rescues Belle from a seemingly unhinged homeless man on the first day of school, the three women aren't sure of Sofia's intentions or background.

After a series of "negative event clusters", (Frost being run over by a scooter; an embarrassing email written by Belle that gets blasted to all of Atherton's families; a robbery that takes place at Morgan's new place of business), it appears as though one of Atherton's parents might be orchestrating a diabolical scheme.

Deliciously gossipy, Mean Moms entertains while highlighting the horrifying wealth discrepancies that exist in New York City. The funny text strings between the Atherton moms interspersed through the book keep things lighthearted, all while adulteries, jealousies, and vendettas stack up. A gratifying ending to Emma Rosenblum's novel caps off this entertaining and readable story. I give Mean Moms by Emma Rosenblum five sars out of five.
